Edgar J. Higgins Jr., is the current owner of Thousand Islands Agency. A 1968 graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, he has more than 30 years of experience in the Property and Liability Insurance Industry.
Mr. Higgins has held the following positions in the insurance industry:

President of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers New York (IIABNY) in 1996
President of the St. Lawrence Valley Chapter of the Society of C.P.C.U. from 1983 to 1985

Mr. Higgins achieved the professional insurance designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 1981. He also serves as a volunteer faculty member of the Virtual University of the Independent Agents and Brokers of America responding to questions from members and subscribers regarding Best Practices, errors and omissions, loss prevention, and technology workflow.
Thousand Islands Agency has been selected as one of the top 180 "Best Practices" agencies in the United States for achieving high standards of performance in both customer service and agency business operations. Mr. Higgins has had articles published in a number of national trade journals related to the practical application of technology to enhance customer service. Trade journal articles have addressed topics of efficiency of workflow, providing employees flexibility in work environments through telecommuting, and disaster action planning for a paperless insurance agency. He is also a speaker at many insurance meeting forums both in New York and other states.
